Alaska Airlines is set to introduce a new cross-country flight between Portland, Oregon, and Atlanta this autumn, as part of its ongoing efforts to broaden its network in 2024.
Commencing on October 1st, the Seattle-based carrier will initiate daily nonstop services connecting the two cities, with operations slated to continue year-round, Alaska Airlines announced. The route will be serviced by a Boeing 737-900 aircraft.
Kirsten Amrine, Vice President of Revenue Management and Network Planning at Alaska Airlines, emphasized the significance of this expansion, stating, “For more than 20 years, we’ve been the largest carrier in Portland – one of our key West Coast gateways. We’re always looking for ways to connect the Rose City to other destinations across our network. We believe our flights to Atlanta will be a popular addition for our guests heading to the South.”
This new flight to Atlanta underscores Alaska’s ongoing commitment to enhancing its offerings from Portland. The airline is also set to bolster seat capacity from the city this summer by over 25 percent. This includes recently announced routes to Nashville and Miami, alongside increased frequencies on popular routes like Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Denver.
With the addition of the Atlanta service, Alaska Airlines will provide nonstop flights to 54 different destinations from Portland.
Beyond its operations in Portland, Alaska Airlines has forged a partnership with Canada’s Porter Airlines to introduce flights connecting Toronto with both Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Amidst its ambitious expansion endeavors, Alaska Airlines is currently pursuing the acquisition of fellow West Coast carrier Hawaiian Airlines, a move that would expand its fleet to 365 narrow and wide-body aircraft. Valued at approximately $1.9 billion and contingent on government approval, the proposed acquisition aims to maintain both the Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines brands, integrating them into a unified operating platform.
