Alaska Airlines is facilitating an extraordinary opportunity for sky gazers eager to witness April’s highly anticipated solar eclipse, offering a range of flights to destinations strategically positioned along the path of totality. The surge in demand for these flights has led to a rapid sell-out of available seats.
The designated routes, catering to locations such as Mazatlán, Mexico, Texas, and Ohio, are experiencing a remarkable threefold surge in demand compared to previous years. Kirsten Amrine, Alaska Airlines’ Vice President of Revenue Management and Network Planning, emphasized the palpable excitement among travelers keen on experiencing the celestial spectacle firsthand. “Travelers are excited to experience the upcoming solar eclipse and we’ve seen this reflected in our bookings,” Amrine stated. “Across our network, flights to destinations along the projected path of the eclipse… are seeing impressive demand, with many flights selling out months in advance.”
To accommodate the heightened interest, additional service has been arranged for Mazatlán, which is anticipated to offer the lengthiest duration of “totality” along Alaska Airlines’ network.
Notably, the route to Mazatlán from Los Angeles has emerged as particularly sought-after among travelers. Moreover, routes to Texas, including destinations such as Austin, Dallas, and San Antonio, have witnessed a notable surge in popularity. Of particular significance is the surge in demand for flights from Seattle to Cleveland, a city also positioned along the path of totality.
The much-anticipated total solar eclipse, often referred to as the Great American Eclipse, is slated to traverse the nation from Texas to Maine on April 8th. NASA indicates that the subsequent total solar eclipse visible from the contiguous United States won’t occur until 2044.
Alaska Airlines is not alone in facilitating travel plans for eclipse enthusiasts. Southwest Airlines has similarly outlined flight options traversing the path of totality, while Delta Air Lines has announced a dedicated solar eclipse flight.
For those opting for ground-based viewing, there are still available deals for various destinations situated within the path of totality.
