The decision to enhance its Charleston service follows a notable development in the airline industry, as a federal judge blocked the proposed merger between Spirit Airlines and JetBlue. The merger, which aimed to make the combined entity the fifth-largest carrier in the United States, was deemed unlawful by the judge, citing violations of antitrust laws. Both Spirit and JetBlue have filed notices to appeal the decision.

Spirit Airlines distinguishes itself as a low-cost carrier, offering basic ticket options while charging for additional services such as baggage and seat selection. Travelers enrolled in the airline’s paid yearly membership program, the Saver$ Club, enjoy discounts on these extras. Moreover, Spirit has introduced a status-matching program, granting travelers access to similar perks for a fee.
