American Airlines will offer up to 40 daily flights to Cancun and the Riviera Maya this winter, perfect for travellers planning their winter getaway.
The airline will offer nonstop service from 18 US airports across its network, and claims to have “more flights to Cancun than any other US airline,” American said in a recent statement.
On Saturday 9 December, American launched new Cancun flights from Cincinnati, Nashville and Pittsburgh, and will continue to operate these seasonal routes once a week until the end of March.
American will serve Cancun from many mid-sized cities across the country, including Austin, Boston, Columbus, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Raleigh-Durham and St. Louis. Many of these routes will also offer Saturday-only service, allowing travellers to enjoy a full week of vacation before returning home.
American offers service to Cancun from nearly all of its hubs, including Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Miami, Los Angeles, New York-JFK, Philadelphia and Phoenix.Combined with existing flights to Cozumel and Merida, the airline will also offer dozens of seamless connections to destinations throughout the Yucatan Peninsula.
The announcement comes weeks after the airline unveiled a major route expansion to Latin America and the Caribbean for the new year. Beginning March 28, American will offer four daily nonstop flights to Tulum’s new airport when it opens for international service. Later in June, the airline will increase frequencies on existing routes to destinations such as the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica and Turks and Caicos.
American isn’t the only U.S. carrier adding flights to warm-weather destinations – major legacy carriers United and Delta are also increasing frequencies to Mexico this winter as demand for leisure travel remains strong.
