Flying with kids soon? Here’s why you should pack masking tape

by Alice

A new viral travel hack could be the trick for your next flight with the little ones.

Nicola Knox, a mum blogger and traveller from Calgary, Canada, recently shared her top travel tip for flying with her kids: bring painter’s tape on the plane. The mum-of-two explained how masking tape can be used in a variety of ways to keep her children occupied, as well as making the journey more enjoyable.

“I swear to you. It’s great on the plane, but also on holiday. Label the kids’ cups, a Band-Aid for when your toddler really needs one,” Knox wrote in the video’s caption.

In the video, which has over 88,000 likes, Knox describes using the roll of painter’s tape as an extra cup holder and the tape itself as a truck bridge, napkin bib, snack holder, counting device and window sticker.

“It’s always the ‘weird’ thing I bring on trips,” she adds, noting that the tape can also be used as a security tool to block locks and drawers.

“Inflight entertainment we never thought of! Very creative,” the official WestJet Airlines account commented on the video.

Another traveller simply exclaimed “This is brilliant”, while others called Knox a “genius”.
However, some commenters pointed out the potential for extra waste or headaches for the cleaning crew. (So here’s a reminder to clean up before you land.) For what it’s worth, painter’s tape is specifically designed to leave no damage or residue on a variety of surfaces, according to The Home Depot.

While social media hacks and tips may clutter our newsfeeds, we’ll never say no to adding more to our repertoire – especially when it comes to anything that makes a traveller’s life easier. Here are 50 more for your next trip. .
