American Airlines is targeting snowbirds with several new routes exclusively for the President’s Day holiday weekend.
On Saturday, February 17, and Saturday, February 24, American Airlines will operate five nonstop routes from New York and Boston to a handful of popular Florida destinations.
From New York’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA), American will offer daily service to Palm Beach (PBI), Sarasota (SRQ) and Tampa (TPA), with morning departures and early afternoon returns. American will operate its A319 aircraft between New York and Palm Beach, while its smaller E175 aircraft will operate between New York and Sarasota and Tampa.
American will also operate daily service from Boston to Key West (EYW) on an E175 and to Palm Beach (PBI) on an A319. Tickets for these President’s Day holiday flights are available on American’s website or mobile app.
“We continually evaluate our network for opportunities to add flights when warranted.”We often add flights specifically for higher-demand travel periods – such as the Presidents’ Day holiday in February. We’ve also recently announced additional flights for the Super Bowl in Las Vegas and Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, where we’ll be offering special service between JFK and Las Vegas, which we don’t traditionally operate, so these types of special flights happen throughout our network.”
All five Florida routes are already served year-round by former Northeast Alliance partner JetBlue, with the exception of LaGuardia to Sarasota, which will end in March 2024 following a series of route cuts by the carrier. The Northeast Alliance, which was struck down by a federal judge in mid-July, previously allowed the two airlines to expand their routes in New York and Boston and offer customers codeshare flights and reciprocal loyalty benefits.
American’s 2024 route announcements don’t stop there. On 28 March, the airline will boost its routes to Mexico with year-round service to Tulum’s new airport from its hubs in Dallas-Fort Worth, Charlotte and Miami.
Later in June 2024, American will increase frequencies to nearly a dozen flights to the Caribbean and Latin America, underscoring the strong demand for warm-weather leisure destinations across its network.
