At the 30th European edition of the World Travel Awards, held in Batumi, Georgia, Lisbon was voted the best urban destination in Europe. In the same edition, several of Lisbon’s facilities were also awarded.
“This award reinforces Lisbon as the capital of the world. In the last two years, Lisbon has reaffirmed itself as a city that values and promotes its unique identity and traditions. Values that have now been recognised with the selection of Lisbon as the best urban destination in Europe. An award that belongs to the people of Lisbon and that will contribute to the growth of our local economy,” said Carlos Moedas, Mayor of Lisbon and the Lisbon Tourism Association (ATL).
The award was accepted by Ricardo Clemente of Lisbon Quake, a member of the ATL Board of Directors.
Known internationally as the “Oscars of Tourism”, the World Travel Awards are an annual celebration of the excellence of tourist destinations, hotel companies, airlines and other entities related to the tourism industry. The awards are a seal of quality and prestige for those who excel at delivering the best the tourism industry has to offer on a global scale.
