The formal handover took place at the conclusion of this year’s event, which brings together airlines, airports, and tourism authorities from across Europe. Rimini to Welcome Europe’s Top Air Service Conference
In 2026, Rimini will host Routes Europe, one of the most important events for the aviation industry. More than 5,000 business meetings are expected between key decision-makers. These meetings often lead to new airline routes and partnerships that shape the future of European air travel.
Rimini stands out as a strong host. It combines historical charm with modern infrastructure. The city boasts 15 kilometers of beach, over 2,000 years of history, and two major venues—the Rimini Fiera and the Palacongressi—for large conferences and exhibitions.
Airport Growth to Support Tourism
Rimini and San Marino International Airport (Federico Fellini Airport) is set to play a major role in this effort. The airport is forecasted to handle around 450,000 passengers in 2025, which would be a 50% increase from the previous year.
The airport is already expanding its network. It offers flights to 27 destinations and is gaining the interest of several international airlines. British Airways has added a route to London Heathrow. easyJet is now flying to London Gatwick and EuroAirport Basel. Vueling has introduced a new connection to Barcelona.

Roberta Frisoni, the region’s Minister for Tourism, Trade, and Sport, said the event would help improve the airport network and bring more investment into tourism and logistics. “Hosting Routes Europe in Emilia-Romagna represents a great opportunity to strengthen our position as a leading international tourist destination and encourage further growth in air connectivity,” she said.

Routes Europe has a strong record of results. Industry data shows that more than half of new airline routes in Europe are linked to meetings held at the event. For Rimini, this means the 2026 edition could lead to more direct flights and new travel options for visitors.
