ITA Airways is set to become a full member of the Star Alliance in 2026, after receiving approval from the alliance’s chief executive board.
The integration process will proceed swiftly, with the Italian airline expected to officially join in early 2026.
This move follows the Lufthansa Group’s acquisition of a 41% minority stake in ITA Airways earlier this year. Lufthansa, along with its subsidiaries Austrian Airlines and Brussels Airlines, are already part of the Star Alliance.
ITA Airways will become the 26th airline to join the global network, which also includes United, Air Canada, Singapore Airlines, and TAP Air Portugal. With this addition, Star Alliance will gain 360 daily flights, primarily from ITA’s hubs in Rome and Milan.
Dieter Vranckx, Lufthansa Group’s Chief Commercial Officer, stated that the group is guiding ITA Airways through the integration process.
“As the mentor of the membership process, we are committed to ensuring a smooth and swift transition,” he said. “ITA Airways’ membership will open up numerous new opportunities for Star Alliance customers, offering more personalized travel options.”
