This summer, travelers are embracing slower, more immersive travel experiences, according to Explore Worldwide. The adventure tour operator, which specializes in small group tours and is certified as a B-Corp, has seen a rise in bookings for active journeys. From famous trails to hidden routes, both popular and lesser-known European destinations are witnessing a growing demand for more scenic and engaging ways to explore.
Katy Rockett, Explore Worldwide’s regional director for North America, reveals that walking and hiking tours have increased by 47% compared to last year, while cycling holidays have grown by 27%. “Travelers are looking for adventures that allow them to connect more deeply with the places they visit,” says Rockett. “Each trip is rated so that travelers can choose an adventure that suits them, whether it’s a relaxing walk through historic Baltic countries or challenging treks in Mont Blanc, France.”
Explore Worldwide offers over 350 tours across 100+ countries, emphasizing adventure travel and new active experiences for 2025. These include walking tours through the rugged landscapes of Northern Ireland and the Faroe Islands, as well as cycling tours in the Loire Valley, France.
The company is also offering a limited-time promotion with up to 20% off per person (land-only) on select small group tours across Europe, Turkey, and Georgia. This deal is available for travel between June and November 2025, with bookings open from April 1 to April 10, 2025.
Popular destinations like the Azores, Portugal’s coastal trails, and the Dolomites are among the top choices. Cycling tours in classic European destinations are also trending.

- Walking in the Azores (14 days): This moderate walking tour takes travelers through the stunning volcanic landscapes of the Azores. Highlights include hiking the Sete Cidades crater, wine tasting on Pico Island, an overnight stay on Faial Island, and a trek to the Capelinhos volcano. Prices start at US $2,660 per person, with departures from April to October.
- Walking in Madeira (8 days): This tour explores Madeira’s famous levada trails, showcasing waterfalls, UNESCO-protected forests, and the island’s highest peak, Pico Ruivo. Rates start at US $1,110 per person, with departures from April to December.
- Cycle the Dalmatian Coast (8 days): Cycling from Split to Dubrovnik, travelers will explore Croatia’s charming towns, vineyards on the Peljesac Peninsula, and olive groves in Konvale Valley. Prices start at US $1,840 per person, with departures from April to October.
