Central regions like Gambella, Sidama, and parts of Oromia have high risks of kidnappings, airstrikes, and violent crime. Border zones near Eritrea, Somalia, Kenya, South Sudan, and Sudan are also dangerous due to military activity, terrorism, and landmines. The capital, Addis Ababa, remains under a “High Degree of Caution” warning due to crime and potential violent protests.
Meanwhile, Canada maintains its “Avoid All Travel” advisory for Russia because of the ongoing war in Ukraine and internal security threats. Areas near the Ukrainian border face shelling and armed incursions, while drone strikes and explosions have occurred deeper inside Russia. Travelers may encounter financial restrictions, limited flight options, and difficulties accessing funds from Canadian banks. Canadians still in Russia are advised to avoid protests and political discussions.
These warnings highlight growing global instability, making it crucial for travelers to check official advisories before planning trips. The Government of Canada regularly updates its travel alerts to help citizens stay informed and safe abroad.
