After several years away due to pandemic disruptions, Travel Portland is making a strong comeback in the Australian and New Zealand markets. The destination marketing organization has announced plans for an ongoing trade program, including reconnecting with key partners and organizing familiarization trips around the upcoming Visit USA Expos.
Heather Anderson, Travel Portland’s director of international tourism administration, expressed enthusiasm about returning to the market. She emphasized that Portland has re-emerged as a vibrant U.S. destination ready to welcome international visitors again.
Located in Oregon’s Pacific Northwest, Portland offers urban excitement amid stunning natural surroundings. The city of 2.3 million residents spans 145 square miles of distinctive experiences – from its famous craft beer and coffee culture to outdoor adventures and thriving arts scene. Known for its sustainability focus and bicycle-friendly streets, Portland celebrates creativity and individuality at every turn.
To support its Australian market return, Travel Portland has renewed its partnership with Sydney-based Barking Owl Communications. The boutique PR agency previously helped build significant awareness for the destination through campaigns highlighting Portland’s unique “makers” culture.
Jill Collins, owner of Barking Owl Communications, said their renewed collaboration would begin with foundational trade initiatives before potentially expanding into larger campaigns. The initial focus will be reintroducing Portland to key travel trade partners as the destination re-establishes its presence down under.
