Vietjet has launched two emergency relief flights to assist Myanmar following the deadly earthquake on March 28. The airline used an Airbus A330 (flight VJ2875) and an A321 (flight VJ2877) to transport Vietnamese rescue teams and essential aid to the affected areas.
The flights departed from Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport on March 30, carrying personnel from the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of National Defense. Vietjet worked swiftly to secure flight permits and ensure technical preparations, demonstrating its commitment to providing timely humanitarian aid.
The two flights carried 106 rescue workers from the Vietnamese armed forces, along with trained search-and-rescue dogs. Additionally, over 60 tons of vital supplies, including medical equipment and food, were delivered to support earthquake relief efforts in Myanmar.
Vietjet CEO Dinh Viet Phuong stated, “Vietjet is always prepared for special missions. We completed all necessary preparations quickly and operated two flights to deliver rescue teams and aid to Myanmar, supporting earthquake relief efforts in a timely manner.”
Upon arrival in Yangon, Myanmar, the rescue teams, along with Vietjet staff, immediately began unloading and transporting supplies to designated relief sites. Local police and military officers joined the operation, assisting with search-and-rescue efforts, medical care, and recovery operations.
A 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar on March 28, causing widespread damage. Over 1,600 people have died, nearly 3,500 are injured, and hundreds are still missing. The earthquake has severely damaged buildings, bridges, and roads, with tremors also felt in neighboring Thailand and Vietnam.
