New data reveals Brisbane’s tourism sector has reached unprecedented heights, with visitors pouring a record 10.7billionintothelocaleconomylastyear.Domestictravellersspent7.5 billion (up 8.5% year-on-year) while international visitors contributed $3.2 billion – surpassing 2019 levels by 10.1%.
The Tourism Research Australia figures show Brisbane’s growth outpacing both Queensland and national averages. The city welcomed 8.8 million visitors in the year to June 2024, smashing records from five key international markets. South Korean visitors surged 44% above 2019 levels following new direct flights to Seoul, while Canadian arrivals jumped 25%. North American visitors overall increased 9.4% to 162,000.
Domestically, Brisbane achieved 12.8 million interstate visitor nights (up 4.8% year-on-year), with Melbourne visitors rising 21.8% to 743,000 and Sydney visitors climbing 32.7% to 1 million.
