Bangladesh’s Eid Holiday Sparks Tourism Boom as Millions Flock to Scenic Hotspots

by gongshang06

Bangladesh is experiencing a major tourism surge as millions take advantage of the extended Eid-ul-Fitr holiday to visit popular destinations. With a rare nine-day break, families are packing beaches, forests, and hillsides, boosting local businesses.

Cox’s Bazar, Kuakata, and the Sundarbans are among the top choices. Hotels and resorts are filling up fast, with about 70% of rooms already booked. Many travelers are also securing last-minute accommodations, pushing occupancy rates even higher.

In Cox’s Bazar, the famous 120-kilometer beach is bustling again after a quiet Ramadan. Over 5,000 hotels, motels, and guesthouses are seeing a sharp rise in bookings. Some high-end resorts are fully booked, while others expect to reach full capacity soon.

Tourism officials predict around 750,000 visitors will arrive in Cox’s Bazar during the peak holiday period. Shopkeepers in busy areas like Laboni Point are stocking up on souvenirs, clothes, and snacks, hoping for strong sales.

Kuakata, another coastal favorite, is also preparing for large crowds. The town has over 150 hotels, many of which are already near full occupancy.

However, not all destinations are thriving. Sajek, a popular hill area, has seen fewer visitors after a recent fire. Tour operators say some travelers are choosing nearby spots instead.

The long holiday is encouraging a mix of family reunions and leisure trips. Experts say this trend is driving record domestic travel. Popular spots like Sylhet, Ratargul Swamp Forest, and Rangamati are expecting huge crowds.

International travel has dipped slightly due to India’s tourist visa restrictions. But flights to Sri Lanka and the Maldives are in high demand, with most seats sold out.

Business leaders are urging fair pricing and safety measures. Tourism insiders estimate the holiday could bring in around Tk750 crore, highlighting the sector’s economic importance.

As the Eid rush continues, Bangladesh’s tourism industry is enjoying one of its busiest seasons in years.
