Deborah Nicholson of Deborah Nicholson Travel has become the only Australian to win Quark Expeditions’ prestigious Ultimate Summer in The Arctic Sweepstakes. The Brisbane-based travel advisor secured a coveted spot on a 13-day Arctic voyage valued as a career highlight for travel professionals.
The educational journey will take Nicholson and a guest through some of the Arctic’s most spectacular landscapes in July 2025. The expedition begins in wildlife-rich Spitsbergen, visits the remote volcanic island of Jan Mayen with its tiny population of just 18 residents, and concludes under Iceland’s midnight sun in Reykjavik. Along the way, participants will witness breathtaking glaciers, diverse Arctic wildlife, dramatic mountainscapes and significant historical sites.
“Absolutely stoked,” Nicholson told Travel Weekly when discussing her win. She described polar expeditions as bucket-list experiences for many clients, particularly those in her mature-aged customer base who often save the Arctic for their final continent to visit. The advisor praised Quark Expeditions as “the Rolls-Royce of Arctic expeditions,” noting she frequently recommends their voyages to clients.
The competition was designed to give travel advisors firsthand experience of Quark’s premium Arctic offerings. Nicholson will be accompanied by one of the company’s sales representatives along with nine other international winners. The trip promises to enhance her ability to advise clients about Arctic travel with authentic, recently updated knowledge of the region’s unique attractions and expedition cruising conditions.
