Elite Island Resorts operates seven boutique resorts across the Caribbean, providing an intimate alternative to the large all-inclusive properties found in the region.
A Unique Approach to Hospitality
Unlike big-brand resorts, each Elite Island Resorts property has its own distinct character. “Every hotel has its own unique personality,” said Larry Basham, Chief Operating Officer of Elite Island Resorts. “We cater to a wide range of guests, from those seeking luxury experiences with Michelin-caliber chefs to families looking for a welcoming environment at St. James’s Club in Antigua.”
Despite their differences, the resorts share key features. “Our staff stands out. Guests return year after year, and our team remembers their names,” Basham said. “We create a more personal, fun, and authentic experience by building relationships with guests and remembering their preferences. This level of service is easier to achieve in a smaller setting, and as a result, we have a high number of repeat visitors.”
Catering to Caribbean Enthusiasts
Elite Island Resorts appeals to travelers who want more than just a standard vacation. “Our properties are for those becoming Caribbean connoisseurs,” Basham explained. “We provide an organic, non-corporate experience and are deeply committed to hiring and developing local talent. We train, promote, and empower local employees, offering them opportunities for growth in the hospitality industry.”
Commitment to Diversity and Community Support
The company strongly supports diversity and inclusion. “We prioritize hiring and creating opportunities for women and the LGBTQ community,” Basham said. “We have one of the most diverse and female-led workforces in the industry.”
A notable example is Sanjay Ambrose, the managing director of operations for all the Antigua resorts. Additionally, several of the company’s general managers are women.
Elite Island Resorts is also actively involved in charitable efforts, including rebuilding homes after natural disasters, funding life-changing surgeries for children, and supporting student robotics teams in Panama. The company also contributes to Antigua’s donkey sanctuary.
Resort Locations and Pricing
The seven resorts are located in Antigua (five properties), Barbados, and Boquete, Panama. All operate under an all-inclusive model, with most catering exclusively to adults. Some resorts allow teenagers aged 12 or 16, while St. James’s Club welcomes guests of all ages.
Rates vary depending on the season. Summer rates range from $499 to $1,599 per night, while winter peak season prices range from $649 to $2,500 per night.
Ideal Guests and Vacation Experience
Elite Island Resorts attracts travelers looking for a peaceful, authentic getaway. “Our ideal guests are those who want to relax in a beautiful setting, away from the crowds of large resorts and cruise ships,” Basham said.
“We want guests to unwind, whether they choose to be active, enjoy spa treatments, or savor great food. If they leave saying, ‘I can’t wait to come back,’ then we’ve achieved our goal.”
