Norway has issued a strong new travel warning for citizens planning trips to the United States. The alert highlights growing concerns over strict immigration checks and problems for travelers with non-binary or transgender identities.
The Norwegian Foreign Ministry confirmed the update. It warns that even travelers with valid visas or ESTA approvals may be denied entry. U.S. border officers have full authority to turn people away, and Norway cannot intervene.
This move follows similar warnings from Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, and Belgium. European travelers have faced increasing issues at U.S. airports, including detainment and deportation under tougher immigration rules.
A major concern is gender recognition. U.S. immigration forms only list “male” or “female.” Travelers whose gender does not match their passport may face extra questioning or denial. Norway advises contacting the U.S. Embassy before traveling to avoid problems.
The warning also stresses that past U.S. visa violations, criminal records, or incorrect statements about travel plans can lead to immediate rejection. Even minor mistakes may result in being sent back.
Europe is reacting to stricter U.S. policies. The UK has warned travelers about possible arrest if they fail entry requirements. Belgium and the Netherlands have updated advisories to protect LGBTQ+ citizens from discrimination.
As U.S. rules keep changing, European nations are urging caution. Norway’s alert makes it clear: traveling to the U.S. now carries higher risks, and preparation is essential.
