An IndiGo flight from Patna to Delhi was forced to make an emergency landing in Lucknow after a passenger suffered a sudden heart attack mid-flight. Despite immediate medical efforts, the passenger could not be saved.
The incident occurred on IndiGo flight 6E2163, which departed from Patna’s Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport. During the journey, a male passenger fell critically ill. The cabin crew suspected a heart attack and quickly responded with first aid.
Recognizing the urgency, the pilot diverted the plane to Lucknow’s Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport. Medical teams were on standby when the flight landed. However, attempts to revive the passenger failed, and he was declared dead.
Airlines have strict protocols for medical emergencies. Crews are trained in basic life support, and planes carry emergency medical kits, including defibrillators. In serious cases, flights may divert to the nearest airport for urgent care.
This is not the first such incident in Lucknow. Recently, an Air India flight also made an emergency landing after a passenger was found unresponsive. Despite medical intervention, the passenger died. Investigations into both cases are ongoing.
Such incidents highlight the importance of in-flight emergency preparedness. While rare, medical crises require swift action from trained crews to maximize the chances of survival. Airlines continue to prioritize passenger safety through rigorous training and well-equipped aircraft.
IndiGo has yet to comment on compensation but is expected to follow standard aviation regulations. Authorities are working to determine the exact cause of death in this latest tragedy.
