The Heritage Museum of Orange County, in partnership with Kellogg Garden Products, has launched a captivating new exhibit at John Wayne Airport. A ribbon-cutting ceremony on March 5 marked the official opening, drawing attention to the museum’s mission of sharing the region’s storied past with a wider audience. The event featured a special appearance by Kellogg’s beloved mascot, “The King,” who helped cut the ribbon and mingled with guests.
Located in the airport’s Departures area, the exhibit showcases a fascinating collection of artifacts, photographs, and narratives highlighting Orange County’s diverse heritage. Visitors can explore the area’s roots—from its indigenous communities to its agricultural legacy and cultural evolution. The display offers travelers and locals alike a glimpse into the people and events that shaped the region.
“This exhibit lets us share Orange County’s remarkable history with the millions who pass through John Wayne Airport every year,” said Kathy Kellogg Johnson. “We’re thrilled to collaborate with the airport to create a space where visitors can engage with our community’s stories.”
The ribbon-cutting ceremony included speeches from museum representatives, airport officials, and local leaders. Attendees then enjoyed a guided tour of the exhibit. To enhance the experience, the event also featured a Victorian Tea service with costumed interpreters and a live blacksmith demonstration, bringing history to life in a memorable way.
Heather Bowling, Curator at John Wayne Airport, shared, “It’s heartening to see travelers pause and appreciate a piece of Orange County’s history. We aim to make every journey through JWA both educational and enjoyable.”
The exhibit is now open to the public, offering a unique cultural experience amid the hustle and bustle of air travel.
