Oceania Cruises’ Riviera to Launch First-Ever Australia and New Zealand Season

by Alice

Oceania Cruises is preparing to set sail on the inaugural Australia and New Zealand season of its 1,250-guest ship, Riviera. This new season promises to offer travelers a blend of Australasian treasures and South Pacific delights.

Riviera will be the only Oceania Cruises ship in the region, presenting exclusive itineraries centered around a gourmet culinary experience. Passengers can explore local food cultures through a wide range of small-group shore excursions. These include visits to local markets, rice fields, and truffle farms, highlighting Australia’s renowned seafood and New Zealand’s famous lamb.

The 2026 Australia and New Zealand season, running from November 2025 to March 2026, will feature a variety of itineraries from 14 to 35 days. Departures will take place from several ports across the region. The voyages will combine less-explored destinations like Mystery Island in Vanuatu, Dunedin in New Zealand, and Kangaroo Island in South Australia, with iconic locations such as Sydney.

Riviera guests will have access to a broad range of excursions at each port of call. Among these, Chef-led Culinary Discovery Tours will offer unique dining experiences, with some opportunities to see a destination from the perspective of local fishermen and farmers.

“We are excited to bring Riviera to Australia and New Zealand for the first time,” said Jason Montague, Oceania Cruises’ Chief Luxury Officer. “This new chapter aligns with our goal to deliver exceptional, immersive experiences that celebrate the region’s rich cultures and stunning landscapes. Riviera will offer travelers a rare chance to enjoy exquisite local cuisine while visiting some of the world’s most famous destinations in ultimate comfort.”

A Ship Designed for Food Lovers

Riviera is known for its culinary offerings, including The Culinary Center, a state-of-the-art cooking school at sea where guests can join hands-on classes that celebrate regional flavors.

This year, the culinary team has introduced a special class called “Down Under Abundance,” focusing on the diverse ingredients found in Australia and New Zealand. The class, developed in collaboration with Oceania Cruises’ Australian and New Zealand chefs, highlights the freshest seafood, meats, and wines from the region.

Onboard, Riviera boasts an impressive selection of gourmet dining venues, each offering a unique experience:

  • Toscana: Authentic Italian cuisine with seasonal ingredients

  • Polo Grill: Elegant steakhouse in a refined setting

  • Jacques: French bistro curated by Jacques Pépin

  • Red Ginger: Innovative pan-Asian gastronomy

  • The Grand Dining Room: Sophisticated menu in an elegant dining room

  • Terrace Cafe: Open-air dining with destination-themed dinners

  • Waves Grill: Casual deckside dining

  • Horizons: High tea with 180-degree views

In addition to The Culinary Center, Riviera features the Artist Loft for artistic expression and a variety of enrichment activities. Guests can enjoy mini-golf, digital classes, and a modern fitness center. For those looking for relaxation, the Aquamar Spa + Vitality Center offers a full range of pampering services.

Land Programs for Deeper Exploration

To further enrich the experience, Oceania Cruises offers pre- or post-cruise land programs, allowing guests to explore destinations in greater depth. These include the Great Barrier Island Adventure in Auckland, New Zealand, with fishing trips, stargazing, and a tour of Auckland’s vibrant city life. Alternatively, guests can embark on a Scenic Journey to the Blue Mountains from Sydney, Australia, to enjoy breathtaking views and an informative hike with a National Park Ranger, who will share Dreamtime stories of the region’s Aboriginal history.
