Azerbaijan is taking steps to unlock the tourism potential of East Zangezur. The Confederation of Entrepreneurs of Azerbaijan (CEA) recently discussed this initiative during a meeting of its tourism and services working commission.
The session covered the commission’s new statute and recent training successes. One key achievement was the launch of the Academy of Gastrotourism in Sumgait, which provides 12 specialized programs.
Members also reviewed the tourism sector’s performance in 2025. They noted fewer tourists visited Azerbaijan during the Novruz holiday in March compared to the previous year.
A survey revealed major challenges facing the industry. These include a shortage of skilled workers, investment hurdles, tax issues, and unregistered tourism services on social media.
The commission stressed the need for better investment conditions to develop budget hotels in regional areas. It also called for stricter rules against unlicensed tourism operators.
The discussions aim to strengthen Azerbaijan’s tourism sector and promote East Zangezur as a new travel destination.
