Vancouver has strengthened its ties to the global cruise industry by joining the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) as an executive partner in Australasia. The move aims to promote the city as a premier cruise gateway and enhance its appeal among travel agents and cruise operators.
As one of Canada’s top cruise hubs, Vancouver offers travelers world-class pre- and post-cruise experiences. Through this partnership, Destination Vancouver will engage with CLIA’s network of 6,000 travel agents across Australia and New Zealand, as well as leading cruise lines, ports, and tourism suppliers.
A Gateway to Stunning Destinations
Joel Katz, CLIA Managing Director for Australasia, praised Vancouver as a spectacular cruise port. “It’s the perfect gateway to British Columbia and Alaska’s breathtaking coastal scenery,” he said. “This collaboration will open new opportunities for cruise travelers and help Australasian agents showcase Vancouver’s unique offerings.”
Supporting Travel Agents and Boosting Tourism
Dianna Schinella, Destination Vancouver’s Australia market representative, said the partnership will highlight the city’s strengths. “We’re excited to work with CLIA’s cruise specialists to promote Vancouver’s natural beauty, vibrant culture, and unforgettable experiences,” she said. “This will inspire more travelers to explore the city before or after their cruise.”
Upcoming Initiatives and Agent Support
Destination Vancouver will participate in CLIA-led programs to help travel advisors sell the destination more effectively. Through its Vancouver Specialist Program, the organization offers agents specialized training, marketing resources, and familiarization trips to boost cruise-related bookings.
This collaboration underscores Vancouver’s growing role in the global cruise industry while providing travel professionals with the tools to showcase the city’s best attractions.
