Minor Hotels has announced the opening of its fifth franchised hotel in Australia, Oaks Redcliffe Mon Komo Suites, marking a significant step in its expansion strategy for the region. In conjunction with this, the company has appointed Russell Cool as the new Director of Franchising to lead its efforts in growing its franchise network.
The expansion reflects Minor Hotels’ strong presence in the Australasian market, which has created a solid platform to capitalize on the growing demand for franchising. The company is targeting a global portfolio of 850 properties by the end of 2027. This expansion will be supported through close collaborations with hotel owners and third-party operators.
The addition of Oaks Redcliffe Mon Komo Suites further strengthens Minor Hotels’ franchise portfolio in Australasia. The company has already seen success with recent franchises, including Oaks Toowoomba Hotel, Oaks Townsville Metropole Hotel, Oaks Melbourne on William Suites, and the upcoming Avani Mooloolaba Beach Hotel on the Sunshine Coast.
Craig Hooley, Chief Operating Officer of Minor Hotels Australasia, emphasized the importance of franchising for the company. “Franchising is a key priority for us, and we are thrilled to have Russell on board to lead our expansion efforts,” he said. “Savvy hotel owners are increasingly recognizing the benefits of partnering with an established brand like Minor Hotels, such as global reach, comprehensive training, and dedicated local support, all while retaining control of their assets.”
Russell Cool, who has extensive experience in the hospitality industry, is familiar with Minor Hotels, having previously led operations for the company in Victoria and South Australia. Cool has also held senior positions with Onyx Hospitality and Langham Hotels, and more recently, was the head of operations for a third-party hotel management company. His experience overseeing multiple franchised hotels in both Australia and South Asia will be invaluable as he drives Minor Hotels’ expansion in the region.
“I’m excited to return to Minor Hotels at such a pivotal time,” Cool said. “We are fortunate to have a strong partnership with the Lewis Land Group, Australia’s oldest private property developer, known for its commitment to quality and excellence. I look forward to contributing to the growth of our franchising network.”
Chris Alison, Queensland Regional Manager for Lewis Land Group, praised the collaboration. “Minor Hotels truly embodies the principle of ‘think global, act local,’ and we are excited to continue our success together with their strong brand presence and dedicated local team.”
Minor Hotels ensures that all its franchise operators receive comprehensive training and ongoing support in areas such as operations, marketing, and head office assistance. This support is designed to drive high occupancy rates and profitability, helping franchisees succeed in a competitive market.
