Goa Tourism Takes Action to Enhance Beach Safety and Visitor Experience

by Alice

The Department of Tourism, Government of Goa, has launched two major initiatives aimed at improving the beach tourism experience in the state. These efforts include a statewide sterilization and treatment program to address the rising stray dog population and a crackdown on touts and illegal businesses operating on Goa’s beaches.

Starting Monday, the sterilization program will be implemented across popular beach areas. The focus will be on ensuring public safety, animal welfare, and creating cleaner, more hygienic environments for both tourists and locals. The initiative also includes rescuing, treating, and rehabilitating injured stray dogs. In addition, awareness campaigns will support the effort, along with promoting the Mission Rabies hotline.

Shri Kedar Naik, Director of Tourism, emphasized the importance of the initiative. “The Department of Tourism is dedicated to maintaining a safe and responsible tourism ecosystem. This drive will not only reduce the stray dog issue but will also help create a more animal-friendly and hygienic environment on our beaches,” he said.

At the same time, Goa Tourism is intensifying its efforts to control the presence of touts and illegal vendors, which have been tarnishing the state’s reputation as a premium beach destination. The department is working closely with shack operators and beach associations to prevent unauthorized commercial activities on the beaches. If stakeholders do not comply with the new rules, the government will take legal action to ensure enforcement.

“Addressing the issues caused by touts and unauthorized businesses is crucial for maintaining a tourist-friendly environment,” Shri Naik stated. “We want to make sure visitors can enjoy Goa’s beaches without disruptions or safety concerns.”

The Department also encourages the use of the Beach Vigil App to report any violations or complaints related to touts. Plans are being discussed to introduce stronger regulations, which would allow beach associations to manage these issues directly.

These actions reflect the Department of Tourism’s proactive strategy to safeguard Goa’s reputation by improving beach cleanliness, ensuring public safety, and enforcing regulations along the coastal areas.
