MATTA Cheers Transport Reforms: PUSPAKOM Changes to Boost Tourism Efficiency

by gongshang06

The Malaysian Association of Tour & Travel Agents (MATTA) is applauding recent changes by the Ministry of Transport (MOT) to streamline vehicle inspections at PUSPAKOM centers. The reforms, effective since 17 March 2025, aim to cut delays and improve efficiency for tourism transport operators.

Key Changes Introduced

Self-Declaration for Minor Issues

Small problems like body stickers, speed limit signs, and seat conditions no longer require mandatory checks. This lets operators focus on critical safety standards. MATTA says this matches its earlier suggestions.

Heavy Vehicles Allowed on Highways

Tourism transport operators can now use expressways when traveling to PUSPAKOM centers. Before, they faced long detours, disrupting travel schedules. The MOT worked with highway authorities to fix this issue.

Longer Inspection Window

The deadline for vehicle inspections has been extended from 14 to 30 days before license expiry. This gives operators more time to book inspections, especially during busy travel seasons.

PUSPAKOM Improvements

PUSPAKOM has also made internal upgrades, including:

  • Ending multiple slot bookings to reduce crowding.
  • Extending operating hours at inspection centers.

These steps should cut wait times and help tourism companies manage their fleets better.

Industry Praise

MATTA President Nigel Wong called the reforms a “solution-oriented approach” to old problems. He said smoother transport operations will benefit both businesses and tourists.

“These changes show the government is serious about improving regulations for tourism transport,” Wong said. “We hope to keep working with the MOT to make travel even better in Malaysia.”

With these updates, Malaysia’s tourism transport sector is set to run more smoothly in 2025 and beyond. The changes aim to boost efficiency and enhance the experience for visitors.
