Intrepid Travel has reported its best financial year yet, with revenue hitting AU millionin2024—a17percentjumpfromthepreviousyear.Theadventuretravelcompanyalsosawa24percentriseinunderlyingEBITDA,reaching42.9 million, marking its strongest performance in 35 years.
The company credited its success to strong operations and commercial strategy. It also shared profits with employees, paying out $12.8 million in bonuses through cash and shares. Around 555 staff are now part of its shareholding scheme. Shareholders will also receive dividends for the second year in a row.
Global Growth and Leadership Shifts
Intrepid is expanding its presence worldwide. Leigh Barnes, a key executive, will move to Seattle to lead US operations. The company also hired Hazel McGuire as its new chief marketing officer, based in London.
New offices in Denmark and the Netherlands—following the acquisition of Dutch travel firm Sawadee Reizen—will help Intrepid grow in Europe.
Sustainability and Social Responsibility
The company renewed its B Corp certification with a high score of 102.5, reflecting its commitment to ethical business. Its nonprofit arm, The Intrepid Foundation, raised over $2.4 million for local causes in 39 countries.
However, Intrepid admits it faces challenges in cutting carbon emissions. It plans to invest more in green initiatives to speed up progress.
Happy Customers and Engaged Staff
Customer satisfaction hit a new peak, with a Net Promoter Score of 81.5, up 4.5 points from 2023. Employees also reported high morale, with a record engagement score of 64.
Looking ahead, Intrepid aims to keep growing while proving that travel can benefit local economies and cultures.
