Playing For Change, a global music collective and Certified B Corp, has teamed up with Visit Mississippi to release their latest Song Around The World, titled “Crossroads.” The track, originally written by blues legend Robert Johnson, will premiere on March 27, 2025, on Playing For Change’s YouTube channel and website. This collaboration celebrates Mississippi’s role as the birthplace of American music and its lasting impact on global soundscapes.
Known as the “Birthplace of America’s Music,” Mississippi is where the blues began in the Mississippi Delta. This iconic genre has shaped countless other styles, from country to rock ‘n’ roll, leaving an indelible mark on American music. The “Crossroads” project brings together a stellar lineup of artists to honor this legacy.
The song features GRAMMY Award-winning blues artist Keb’ Mo’, celebrated guitarist Kingfish, CMA Musician of the Year Charlie Worsham, and electric blues guitarist Cedric Burnside, grandson of blues legend R.L. Burnside. Joining them are GRAMMY-nominated artist Sierra Hull, soulful singer-songwriter KIRBY, acclaimed musician Vasti Jackson, and Nigerien artist Bombino. Together, these talents blend blues and world music to showcase Mississippi’s global influence.
This release coincides with two major milestones: the 100th birthday of B.B. King, the King of Blues, and the 90th birthday of Elvis Presley, the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Playing For Change and Visit Mississippi aim to highlight the state’s cultural and musical contributions, offering the world a deeper understanding of the roots of American music.
