Beijing Sees 23% Surge in Foreign Arrivals, Driven by Visa-Free Policies

by Alice

Beijing has witnessed a significant rise in international visitors in 2025, with nearly 940,000 foreign nationals entering the city as of Monday, according to data released by the Beijing General Station of Exit and Entry Frontier Inspection. This marks a 23% increase compared to the previous year, reflecting a strong recovery in international travel to China.

A key driver behind this growth is China’s expanded visa-free policies, which have simplified entry procedures for foreign travelers. These policies have facilitated over 236,000 entries into Beijing this year alone. Among the most popular measures is the 240-hour visa-free transit, which allows eligible travelers to stay in China for up to ten days without a visa.

The overall number of cross-border travelers in Beijing has also surged, surpassing 4 million in 2025. This upward trend underscores the growing demand for inbound tourism and highlights China’s efforts to attract international visitors.

To further streamline entry, China has extended unilateral visa-free policies to 38 countries and implemented 240-hour transit visa-free arrangements for travelers from 54 countries. These initiatives aim to enhance international mobility and strengthen China’s appeal as a global travel destination.

The rise in foreign arrivals signals a broader recovery in China’s tourism sector, which is expected to continue as visa-free policies make travel more accessible. The increase not only supports economic growth but also fosters cultural exchanges, reinforcing Beijing’s role as a key hub for international connectivity.

As these policies remain in place, Beijing is poised to see sustained growth in inbound travel, further solidifying its position as a leading destination for global tourists.
