Jordan’s tourism sector has kicked off 2025 with a bang. New data from the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) shows tourism revenue hit $1.28 million in the first two months of the year. This marks a 16.3% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
The surge is driven by a significant rise in tourist arrivals. According to Al Mamlaka TV, the number of visitors grew by 18.5% during this period.
Breaking it down by nationality, revenue from Jordanian expatriates rose by 12%. Non-Jordanian Arab tourists contributed 16.7% more, while European visitors spent 4.6% more. American tourists boosted spending by 14.6%, and other nationalities saw a massive 42.5% jump in revenue.
However, it’s not just inbound tourism that’s thriving. Outbound travel spending also saw a sharp increase. In the first two months of 2025, Jordanians spent $342.7 million on overseas trips—a 16.7% rise compared to the same period in 2024.
Remittances from Jordanian expatriates also saw a slight uptick. In January 2025, they reached 320million,up1.2316.4 million in January 2024.
Looking back at 2024, Jordan’s tourism revenue totaled JD7.239 billion. This was a 2.3% drop from 2023, according to the CBJ’s January report. The decline was linked to a 3.9% decrease in tourist arrivals.
The report also revealed mixed results by nationality. Revenue from Jordanian expatriates grew by 7.7%, and non-Jordanian Arab tourists contributed 12% more. However, earnings from European, American, and other nationalities fell sharply by 54%, 35.2%, and 15.3%, respectively.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) pointed out in a June 2024 report that the Gaza war, which began in October 2023, heavily impacted Jordan’s tourism. Tourists from developed economies, who typically make up one-third of tourism revenue, canceled trips in large numbers. This played a key role in the sector’s struggles last year.
Overall, 2025 is shaping up to be a record-breaking year for Jordan’s tourism industry, with strong growth in both revenue and visitor numbers.
