Auckland Airport and Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport have signed a new agreement to boost tourism and business growth between New Zealand and India. The partnership comes as the New Zealand Government visits India with a business delegation this week.

Travel between India and New Zealand has grown significantly in recent years. Since 2015, the number of people traveling between the two countries has increased by 78%. In 2024, 351,000 people made the journey. About a third of these travelers flew between Delhi and Auckland, totaling around 110,000 passengers. Last year, 102,000 New Zealand residents visited India, while 83,000 Indian residents traveled to New Zealand.

Tourism New Zealand reports that 77% of Indian visitors travel during the off-peak season. This provides a great opportunity for New Zealand to attract more tourists outside the busy summer months.

The new partnership will focus on sharing knowledge to improve airport operations, management, and customer experience. Both airports aim to make travel smoother and more enjoyable for passengers while supporting the growth of tourism and trade between the two countries.
