Hamad International Airport (DOH), recently crowned the “World’s Best Airport” and “Best Airport for Shopping” by Skytrax in 2024, has officially opened its new Concourses D and E. This expansion marks a significant step in the airport’s growth, increasing its annual passenger capacity to over 65 million.
The new concourses seamlessly integrate with the existing terminal, offering state-of-the-art technology and improved facilities to accommodate rising passenger numbers. The terminal’s size has grown by 14%, now covering 842,000 square meters. Additionally, 17 new aircraft gates have been added, bringing the total to 62—a nearly 40% increase. This expansion enhances connectivity, improves operational efficiency, and reduces the need for bus transfers.
A Strategic Milestone for Qatar’s Aviation Hub
Qatar Airways Group CEO, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, emphasized the importance of the expansion. “Hamad International Airport is not just a gateway; it is a cornerstone of Qatar’s growth and global connectivity,” he said. “I am proud to see the completion of this project, which I have been closely involved with since 2018. Despite global delays in airport expansions, we have delivered this project ahead of schedule, showcasing our commitment to excellence and strategic planning.”
Al-Meer added that the expansion aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030, supporting economic growth and strengthening the Qatar Airways network. “This development is about more than increasing capacity—it’s about enhancing operational resilience and solidifying Qatar’s position as a leading aviation hub,” he said.
Operational Excellence and Efficiency
Hamad Ali Al Khater, Chief Operating Officer of Hamad International Airport, highlighted the operational benefits of the new concourses. “The opening of Concourses D and E is a major step in expanding our capacity and improving efficiency,” he said. “This development optimizes passenger flow, resource management, and airline connectivity, ensuring a smoother and more efficient experience for travelers.”
