Contiki, a popular tour operator for young adults, has introduced an exciting new way to explore Europe: the Run Club travel style. This unique offering allows travelers aged 18 to 35 to experience Europe while participating in run club activities.
The new trips tap into the growing trend of run clubs. According to Strava’s trends report, participation in run clubs saw a 59% increase globally last year. In addition, research shows that Gen Z is four times more likely to meet people through fitness activities than in traditional social settings like bars.
In 2025, Contiki will offer two exclusive Run Club trips, both with limited availability and only one departure each.
The European Highlights trip, departing on August 25, spans two weeks and takes runners through scenic destinations like the Beaujolais Wine Region, the French Riviera, Amsterdam, Monaco, Tuscany, Edam, and Pisa. Along the way, travelers will enjoy morning runs and activities such as wine tastings and cycling.
The European Whirl Plus trip, starting on September 7, offers a 19-day journey with runs through cities like Berlin, Prague, and Tyrol. Other experiences include gondola rides in Venice, wine tastings in Lucerne, and visits to cultural landmarks like the Roman ruins, the Dresden Opera House, and the Berlin Wall.
Contiki CEO Adam Armstrong explained, “Run Clubs offer more than just fitness – they are a way for our 18-35 audience to connect, explore, and build community in today’s increasingly fragmented, digital world. Active trips are becoming increasingly popular, with bookings on our active itineraries growing by 105% from 2023 to 2024. Whether running along the Mediterranean coastline or through Austria’s stunning Alps, group runs have always been a highlight of these trips.”
These new trips are set to offer a perfect blend of fitness, culture, and community, making them an exciting option for active young travelers.
