Hong Kong’s new sports and entertainment destination, the Kai Tak Sports Park, has officially opened, marking a significant step in the city’s ambition to become a global events hub.
The grand opening this month was a vibrant celebration of sports, culture, and entertainment, featuring an impressive lineup of athletes, performers, and industry leaders. The event highlighted the city’s growing role on the global stage.
The opening ceremony blended sports with music, showcasing legendary martial artists, Olympic champions, and rising music stars. It captured the themes of struggle, ambition, and achievement. Iconic athletes from Hong Kong and Mainland China, as well as elite members of the National and Hong Kong teams, displayed traditional Chinese sports like badminton and table tennis, celebrating the rich cultural heritage and unity between generations.
A Dazzling Finale for Kai Tak’s Grand Opening
The event reached its peak with a spectacular grand finale. Performers united in a powerful display of talent, followed by a stunning LED light show that illuminated the stadium’s exterior, visible from across Victoria Harbour. Fireworks and celebratory visuals enhanced the spectacle, solidifying Kai Tak Sports Park’s place as a new symbol for Hong Kong on the world stage.
A New Global Sports and Entertainment Hub
John Sharkey, CEO of Kai Tak Sports Park, emphasized that the venue positions Hong Kong to attract major international events, drawing visitors and investments that will boost the city’s sports and performing arts industries. “We aim to fully utilize the park’s world-class sports facilities to help the Hong Kong Government achieve its vision of becoming an international sports hub and hosting top-tier entertainment events,” Sharkey said.
Beyond entertainment, the sports park has secured long-term partnerships with major local and international companies. Key partners include HSBC as the Premier Founding Partner, along with CTF Life, Cathay, Coca-Cola, HKT, and Marriott Bonvoy as Founding Partners. Additional Official Partners and Suppliers will join the initiative.
‘Hong Kong Super March’ Kicks Off at Kai Tak Sports Park
The opening of Kai Tak Sports Park also marks the start of “Hong Kong Super March,” a month of major sporting events aimed at establishing Hong Kong as the “Premier Hub for Mega Events.”

March 4-9: World Grand Prix 2025
March 16: Kai Tak Sports Initiative – Kai Tak Run
March 28-30: Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens 2025
Looking ahead, Kai Tak Sports Park will host an exciting range of international sports and music events. Notably, it will be the venue for key test matches ahead of the 15th National Games in November. This marks the first time Hong Kong will host four official competitions as part of the National Games, further cementing the city’s status as a global sports hub. The venue will also host the 12th National Disabled Persons’ Games and the 9th Special Olympics National Games, reflecting its commitment to accessibility and inclusivity in sports.
