The PromPeru Trade Commission Office in Australia & New Zealand recently hosted a two-night cultural extravaganza in Sydney, highlighting Peru’s vibrant heritage, world-class cuisine, and luxury travel experiences. The event aimed to reintroduce Peru as a top destination for Australian travellers seeking meaningful and immersive post-pandemic adventures.
Peru has long been celebrated for its award-winning gastronomy, rich history, and unique adventures. Now, with travel resuming, the country is once again capturing the attention of Australian holidaymakers.
The first night unfolded at Morena restaurant, where acclaimed Peruvian chef Alejandro Saravia led a media event. Saravia, a pioneer in bringing Latin American cuisine to Australia, showcased his 15 years of expertise by blending traditional Peruvian flavours with locally sourced Australian ingredients. Guests were treated to a curated menu that highlighted the diversity of Peruvian culinary traditions. Each attendee also received tickets to the Machupicchu exhibition at the Australian Museum and a Peruvian hot chocolate gift pack, adding a sweet touch to the evening.
The celebration continued the following night at the Australian Museum, where travel industry professionals gathered for an exclusive event supported by LATAM Airlines. Guests explored the Machupicchu exhibition and enjoyed an immersive virtual reality experience that brought the wonders of Peru to life. Traditional Pisco cocktails and Peruvian canapés were served, while journalist and podcaster Belinda Jackson shared her personal travel stories from Peru in a lively Q&A session, further cementing the country’s appeal.
The event was attended by notable figures, including Soledad Campos de Parry, Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner of PromPeru, and Vitaliano Gaspar Gallardo Valencia, the Ambassador of Peru to Australia.
This showcase marks a significant step in Peru’s resurgence as a premier travel destination for Australians. Over the past year, the country has seen a 57% increase in Australian visitors, with 27,304 travellers exploring Peru and staying an average of 15 days. With its unique blend of culture, adventure, and authenticity, Peru is firmly back on the map for discerning travellers.
