Khiri Travel has officially joined The Long Run, a global network of tourism businesses focused on positive environmental and social impact. Through this membership, the company aims to collaborate with other members to protect 23 million acres of biodiverse landscapes, support 130,000 people through employment, education, and training, and invest over US$13 million in conservation and community projects.
Founded in 2009, The Long Run now includes 73 members, mainly ecolodges, tourism experiences, and destinations across six continents. The organization is dedicated to the principles of conservation, community, culture, and commerce—collectively known as the four Cs.
Willem Niemeijer, founder and CEO of Khiri Travel, expressed excitement about joining The Long Run. “We are thrilled to become a member, especially as their diverse members are so inspiring. Beyond technical support and best practices, The Long Run fosters collaboration, learning, and enthusiasm to raise sustainability standards in tourism.”
Khiri Travel’s philanthropic arm, Khiri Reach, is already putting the four Cs into action with projects like seagrass planting in Kalpitiya, Sri Lanka, and providing boats for children to cross the Kambaniru River safely to school in Sumba Island, Indonesia. The organization plans to expand its regenerative travel initiatives in 2025, focusing on improving ecosystems, communities, and local economies.
Anne-Kathrin Zschiegner, executive director of The Long Run, welcomed Khiri Travel’s membership, highlighting the company’s experience and passion for responsible travel. “Khiri Travel brings over 30 years of expertise and shares our dedication to regenerative tourism,” she said.
