This recognition reinforces its position as one of Kyoto’s top luxury destinations. The award comes shortly after the hotel received a One Michelin Key, further solidifying its reputation for exceptional service and world-class hospitality.
Forbes Travel Guide, a leading authority in luxury travel, was established in the U.S. in 1958. Originally known as Mobil Travel Guide, it introduced the five-star rating system in 1960. Today, it remains a trusted benchmark for luxury hospitality. The guide’s inspectors conduct anonymous evaluations, assessing hotels against over 900 strict criteria to ensure the highest standards of quality and guest experience.
The Four-Star rating is awarded to hotels that provide outstanding service and top-tier facilities. Dusit Thani Kyoto earned this distinction after rigorous, anonymous assessments by Forbes Travel Guide inspectors. These inspectors visited the property as regular guests, covering their own expenses to ensure impartiality.
Since its opening in September 2023, Dusit Thani Kyoto has become a tranquil retreat in Kyoto’s Hongwanji Monzen-machi district, just 850 meters from the bustling Kyoto Station. The hotel, part of Dusit’s luxury Dusit Thani collection, blends Thailand’s famous warm hospitality with Japan’s traditional omotenashi (exceptional service), creating a welcoming atmosphere for every guest. Its 147 rooms are elegantly designed, combining classic sophistication with modern comforts.

Sustainability is a key focus, with Ayatana sourcing seasonal ingredients from the Kansai region, including produce from Ohara Farm and organic tea from Wazuka.
