Assam is gearing up to become a major business hub, with Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma announcing key agreements with Japan and Singapore at the upcoming Advantage Assam 2nd Edition summit. The event, set for February 24-25 in Guwahati, will attract over 7,000 business leaders from 31 countries across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, the US, and beyond.
Opportunities for Employment and International Collaboration
Japan plans to recruit 50,000 skilled workers from Assam, while Singapore is seeking to hire nurses, creating important international employment opportunities for the state’s workforce. The summit will bring together global business leaders, policymakers, and investors to explore key sectors such as tourism, renewable energy, aerospace, and infrastructure, marking a significant step towards economic growth in Assam.
Prominent Figures to Attend the Summit
The summit will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman attending the closing session. Key Union Ministers like Jyotiraditya Scindia, S. Jaishankar, Ashwini Vaishnav, Hardeep Singh Puri, and Piyush Goyal are also expected to participate.
Global business figures such as Mukesh Ambani, Gautam Adani, N Chandrasekaran (Chairman of Tata Sons), Anil Agarwal (Chairman of Vedanta), and Sajjan Jindal (Chairman of JSW) will be in attendance, alongside 31 ambassadors, further strengthening international collaboration.

Global Participation and Strategic MoUs
The summit has garnered strong global interest, with partner countries including Bhutan, Japan, Australia, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines confirming their presence. Additional countries such as Finland, Iceland, Austria, and the Republic of Korea are also expected, with more countries anticipated to join.
Key international agencies like the US-India Business Council, India–New Zealand Business Council (INZBC), UAE-India Business Council (UIBC), Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre in India, The World Bank, European Union, Asian Development Bank, and New Development Bank will also participate.
Memorandums of Understanding with Japan and Singapore
The Assam government will sign two major Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) during the summit:
Japan: Plans to recruit 50,000 skilled workers from Assam, with the possibility of expanding recruitment.
Singapore: Will hire nurses from Assam, following the successful recruitment of 17 professionals earlier.
Additionally, Japan will set up a Language Testing Centre in Assam, and discussions on dual-degree programs between Assamese and Japanese universities will take place.
Supporting Regional Growth and MSMEs
Ahead of the summit, the Assam government has conducted roadshows across 13 districts, engaging with 3,700 small and medium-scale industrialists. The goal is to unlock economic opportunities and create jobs in various sectors throughout the region.
With its strong lineup of global leaders, corporate giants, and strategic collaborations, Advantage Assam 2.0 is set to establish Assam as a top investment destination in India.
