The European Capital of Culture event officially kicks off at Europe Square, the lively heart of both cities. As night falls, the spotlight will shift to the open-air stage in front of Nova Gorica’s City Hall, where an impressive cultural performance will take place.
Throughout the year, GO! 2025 will offer over 1,000 unforgettable events in the region, including concerts, theater performances, art exhibits, film screenings, culinary experiences, and more.
After the grand opening, one of the first major events, March for Europe (1–9 May), will turn border crossings into interactive art displays. Later in the year, the culinary festival Tastes without Borders (26–28 September) will treat visitors to an extraordinary gastronomic experience. The celebration will conclude with the spectacular Enlightened Closing Ceremony (1–3 December), which will light up both cities in a dazzling show. The program also features concerts by Alexander Gadjijev, Borderless Body, Dodecalogy 1972–1983, EPIC, ISOLABS, and Benedetti Life, all celebrating unity, creativity, and cultural heritage.
GO! 2025 offers an incredible chance to explore a region where history, modern design, and stunning nature meet. Nova Gorica, Slovenia’s newest city, is known for its impressive modernist architecture and its location along the beautiful Soča River, making it a perfect spot for nature enthusiasts. Visitors can easily take a train to the nearby Soča Valley, where charming towns like Tolmin, Kobarid, and Bovec await exploration.
For wine and food lovers, the region is home to two outstanding wine regions:
- The Vipava Valley, known as the Slovenian Provence, famous for its sunny vineyards and boutique wineries.
- The picturesque Goriška Brda, recognized for its natural beauty and exceptional wines.
