Thailand experienced a strong start to 2025, welcoming nearly 3.7 million foreign tourists in January, marking a significant 22.2% increase from the same month in 2024. This surge signals a robust recovery in the tourism sector and puts the country on track to reach its goal of 40 million visitors for the year, generating 3.5 trillion baht in revenue, according to the Tourism and Sports Ministry.

The growth was driven by tourists from a variety of countries, with the top ten nations contributing to the influx.
The leading countries by number of arrivals were:
China: 662,779 visitors
Malaysia: 443,015 visitors
Russia: 255,920 visitors
South Korea: 209,065 visitors
India: 185,809 visitors
United Kingdom: 121,529 visitors
United States: 118,038 visitors
Taiwan: 116,779 visitors
Germany: 112,828 visitors
France: 110,515 visitors
China topped the list, followed by Malaysia and Russia. Strong numbers also came from South Korea and India, showcasing Thailand’s appeal to tourists from Asia, Europe, and North America.
Tourist Arrivals Exceed Monthly Targets
Thailand’s tourism performance in January surpassed the government’s monthly target of 3.33 million visitors, which is based on the goal of attracting 40 million tourists in 2025. This growth underscores the country’s strong global appeal, attracting visitors to its beaches, cultural landmarks, and vibrant shopping and dining scenes.

To continue this momentum, the Thai government has set an ambitious target of 40 million international visitors for 2025. This goal is part of the “Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year 2025” initiative, which aims to further boost the country’s tourism industry.

Tourism and Sports Minister Sorawong Thienthong emphasized the need to balance growth with sustainability, ensuring that Thailand’s natural and cultural resources are preserved while welcoming more visitors.
