Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) has officially broken ground on a new pier at its private island, Great Stirrup Cay, in the Bahamas. The project marks a significant step in the company’s efforts to enhance its flagship destination.
Harry Sommers, President and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, shared the news in a LinkedIn post, calling the development a “major milestone.” He highlighted that the $150 million project aims to improve access to Great Stirrup Cay, which is consistently rated as one of the company’s top destinations by guests.
The groundbreaking ceremony, held last Friday, was attended by senior cruise line executives as well as prominent Bahamian officials. Among them were Prime Minister Philip Edward Davis MP KC and Deputy Prime Minister Chester Cooper, who joined in celebrating the project’s launch.
Sommers emphasized the company’s commitment to strengthening its presence in the Bahamas. “By bolstering our footprint in the Bahamas, we’re thrilled to create a deeper connection with the community and foster long-term opportunities for growth and sustainability,” he wrote.
The new pier is part of a broader infrastructure upgrade announced by NCLH in April. Once completed, it will allow multiple ships to dock at Great Stirrup Cay simultaneously, significantly increasing the island’s capacity and improving the overall guest experience.
The project underscores Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings’ ongoing investment in its private destinations, aiming to provide passengers with seamless access to some of the world’s most sought-after locations.
