The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) has responded to the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) planned updates to its Twelve-Five Standard Security Program (TFSSP). These changes will affect public charter flights operating under 14 CFR Part 380 and FAR Part 135 regulations.
Doug Carr, NBAA’s Senior Vice President for Safety, Security, Sustainability, and International Operations, stated, “The NBAA is closely reviewing the TSA’s proposed changes to public charter security. Due to the classified nature of the TFSSP, we cannot discuss specifics, but we are committed to collaborating with the TSA to ensure the new requirements are practical for our diverse industry. We also aim to help operators fully understand the updated mandates.”
The TSA announced the changes earlier this month, marking the end of a lengthy development process. Last year, the agency began working with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to reevaluate security measures for public charter flights. This effort came in response to industry calls for security protocols more in line with those of commercial airlines.
The NBAA emphasized its dedication to ensuring the updated program balances security needs with the operational realities of the business aviation sector. Further details on the changes remain limited due to the classified nature of the TFSSP.
