On January 19, 2025, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) launched a stunning Chinese New Year lighting ceremony at the Chinatown Gate (Royal Jubilee Gate) in Odeon Circle, Bangkok. The event marked the start of the Chinese New Year celebrations along Yaowarat Road, which will run until February 9.
This year’s ceremony holds special significance as it celebrates the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and the People’s Republic of China. The festivities highlight the strong cultural and historical ties between the two nations.
The ceremony was led by Mr. Wu Zhiwu, Minister at the Chinese Embassy in Thailand, and Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor. They were accompanied by Mr. Wisit Limparnukorn, Chairman of the Chinatown Chinese New Year Festival Organising Committee, along with senior TAT officials, representatives from the Chinese Embassy, and Bangkok city officials.
The event featured a blend of Thai and Chinese traditions, including lively cultural performances, dazzling light displays, and exhibits showcasing the shared heritage of the two countries. These elements symbolized the deep-rooted friendship and cooperation between Thailand and China.
