Alaska Airlines Expands Oregon Network with Three New Routes, Including Portland-Houston

by Alice

Alaska Airlines is set to launch daily flights between Houston’s Bush Intercontinental Airport and Portland, Oregon, starting May 15. The new route will be operated using Boeing 737 aircraft and will place Alaska in direct competition with United Airlines, which currently offers two to three daily flights on the same route. Houston is the largest U.S. city not currently served by Alaska Airlines from its Portland hub.

The Portland-Houston route is part of a broader expansion announced by Alaska Airlines on Tuesday, which includes two additional routes connecting Oregon cities. Also beginning May 15, the airline will introduce daily flights between San Diego and Medford, as well as twice-daily service between Portland and Eugene, located 110 miles to the north. Both of these routes will be serviced by Embraer E175 regional jets.

On the San Diego-Medford route, Alaska will compete with Allegiant Air, which currently operates twice-weekly flights. Meanwhile, the Portland-Eugene route will be exclusively served by Alaska Airlines, offering travelers a convenient connection between the two cities.

This expansion underscores Alaska Airlines’ commitment to strengthening its presence in Oregon and providing more travel options for passengers across the West Coast and beyond.
