Young adult tour operator Contiki has unveiled a groundbreaking travel style tailored for running enthusiasts: the Run Club trips. Aimed at travelers aged 18-35, these unique itineraries combine fitness, exploration, and social connection, allowing participants to experience Europe on foot while bonding with like-minded runners.
Run clubs have surged in popularity in recent years. According to Strava’s 2023 trends report, global participation in run clubs jumped by 59%. For Gen Z, fitness activities have become a key way to meet new people, with young adults four times more likely to connect through exercise than in traditional social settings like bars.
In 2025, Contiki will debut two exclusive Run Club trips, each with limited availability and just one departure.
The first, European Highlights, kicks off on August 25 for a 14-day adventure. Travelers will enjoy morning runs in iconic locations such as the Beaujolais Wine Region, the French Riviera, Amsterdam, Monaco, Tuscany, Edam, and Pisa. The trip also includes wine tastings, cycling, and other leisure activities.
The second, European Whirl Plus, is a 19-day journey starting September 7. This itinerary features runs in Berlin, Prague, and Tyrol, balanced with cultural experiences like gondola rides in Venice, wine tastings in Lucerne, and visits to landmarks such as Roman ruins, the Dresden Opera House, and the Berlin Wall.
“Run Clubs are more than just a fitness trend for our 18-35 audience—they’re a way to connect, explore, and build community in an increasingly fragmented, online world,” said Contiki CEO Adam Armstrong. He noted that the demand for active travel is rising, with bookings for Contiki’s active itineraries increasing by 105% from 2023 to 2024. “Whether it’s running along the Mediterranean coastline in France or through Austria’s stunning Alps, group runs have consistently been a highlight of our trips.”
These innovative Run Club trips aim to blend fitness, adventure, and social connection, offering young travelers a fresh way to explore Europe while staying active.
