American Airlines has unveiled five new routes for 2025, including additional flights to Canada and scenic U.S. destinations. The Fort Worth-based airline is also adjusting its operations at New York’s LaGuardia Airport, providing new opportunities for travelers while discontinuing one of its existing routes.
Starting June 7, 2025, American will introduce three new Saturday-only routes from LaGuardia, set to run through August 30, 2025. The new destinations are:
- Bozeman, Montana (BZN)
- Calgary, Alberta (YYC)
- Kalispell, Montana (FCA)
These routes will be serviced by the Boeing 737 MAX 8, featuring 16 first-class recliners, 24 Main Cabin Extra seats, and 132 standard economy seats. Notably, the Kalispell route will be the longest flight from LaGuardia, covering 2,035 miles. While LaGuardia’s perimeter rule usually limits flights to 1,500 miles, an exception allows longer flights on Saturdays, reflecting American’s aim to cater to leisure travelers with access to outdoor destinations like Montana’s national parks and Canada’s Rocky Mountains.
However, with these new additions, American will discontinue the LaGuardia-to-Philadelphia route, effective June 5, 2025. This decision comes as the airline reallocates resources to focus on higher-demand routes.
New Flights to Canada
American Airlines is also expanding its Canadian offerings with two new routes:
Chicago O’Hare (ORD) to Halifax, Nova Scotia (YHZ): Operating from June 21, 2025, to October 4, 2025
Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) to Quebec City, Quebec (YQB): Operating from August 9, 2025, to November 1, 2025
These routes will be serviced by the Embraer E175 regional jet, with the Dallas-to-Quebec flight becoming the longest E175-operated route for American Airlines, spanning 1,655 miles. The new routes are designed to connect travelers with culturally rich and picturesque destinations in Canada, such as the historic charm of Halifax and Quebec City.
Final Thoughts
American Airlines’ latest route additions reflect a strategic push to attract leisure travelers, offering direct access to scenic and lesser-known destinations across North America. While the decision to operate Saturday-only flights presents certain logistical challenges, it represents a competitive move in a rapidly changing travel landscape. Travelers should take advantage of these new options, though the discontinuation of the LaGuardia-to-Philadelphia route may affect frequent flyers. Staying flexible and informed will be essential for making the most of these updates.
