Rail Europe has announced the addition of new train routes linking Slovenia to major European cities, offering travelers enhanced access to the country’s scenic landscapes and cultural attractions. The new routes, available through RailAPI, RailFlash, and RailPortal, are operated by Austrian Railways (ÖBB) and will complement existing offerings on RailEurope.com and the Rail Europe app.
The expanded service includes new connections from Ljubljana to key destinations, such as:
- Trieste (with stops in Celje, Pragersko, Lasko, Zidani Most, Trbovlje, and Zagorje)
- Graz
- Vienna
- Maribor
- Zurich
- Munich
- Budapest
These new routes are designed to offer seamless access to Slovenia’s natural beauty and vibrant cities, which have seen record levels of tourism in recent years. Known for its stunning mountains, lakes, castles, and wines, Slovenia has become an increasingly popular destination. The country’s tourism industry reached a milestone in 2023, welcoming 6.19 million visitors, a 5.5% increase from the previous year, and registering 16.13 million overnight stays, reflecting a growing demand for convenient travel options.
The new rail connections provide an essential gateway to Slovenia and also link it with neighboring European countries, enhancing regional travel. Rail Europe’s Multi Providers feature allows travel partners to book multi-leg journeys across multiple European rail networks, creating a smoother travel experience for tourists eager to explore the continent.
For those interested in discovering Slovenia at their own pace, the Eurail/Interrail Slovenia Pass offers a flexible way to travel within the country, further promoting Slovenia as a top choice for rail travelers in 2025.
