As 2024 wraps up, travel fever is sweeping Southeast Asia, with Singaporeans emerging as the most frequent travelers in the region. According to a recent study by Milieu Insight, 79% of Singaporeans have traveled internationally this year, and 66% of Southeast Asians have taken 1 to 4 leisure trips abroad. The study, conducted across Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Thailand, also reveals that Southeast Asia and East Asia remain the top travel destinations, with 49% of respondents favoring Southeast Asia and 45% heading to East Asia (China and South Korea).
The year-end season sees many Southeast Asians planning trips with romantic partners (42%) or friends (30%), with sightseeing and outdoor activities (64%) being the top travel motivations. Digital platforms like Klook and Skyscanner are increasingly used for trip bookings, with 71% of travelers preferring these for convenience and discounts. Despite this, traditional booking methods remain popular among some travelers, citing concerns about scams and unfamiliarity with digital platforms.
