KLM Expands European Network with New Routes in 2025

by Alice

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is set to broaden its European network in 2025 with the addition of new routes to cities in Slovenia, England, and France. The new flights will be available starting 30 March 2025, with daily services connecting Amsterdam Schiphol Airport to Ljubljana and Exeter.

The Slovenian capital, Ljubljana, will be served by KLM’s Embraer 190 aircraft, while Exeter in southwest England will receive flights operated by the slightly smaller Embraer 175. Additionally, KLM will introduce seasonal flights to the French city of Biarritz beginning 19 April. Initially, Biarritz will be serviced twice a week by an Embraer 190 aircraft, with frequency increasing to daily flights during the peak summer season, from 30 June to 22 August.

The airline emphasized that these new routes are made possible by “shifts” in its European network, optimizing its current operations. KLM’s expansion comes amid ongoing discussions over flight capacity at Amsterdam Schiphol, as the Dutch government plans to reduce the airport’s capacity by 4.4% in 2025 to mitigate noise pollution.

KLM has expressed concerns over the capacity reduction, arguing that it could be “legally unsustainable” and counterproductive. The airline has already been investing in quieter aircraft to help lower noise levels and maintain service efficiency. The European Commission has been involved in the discussions, with the airline awaiting its advice following objections to similar capacity cuts in the past.

Schiphol Airport, on the other hand, has reiterated its support for the government’s decision, citing the importance of balancing airport operations with environmental considerations. The airport is also adjusting its pricing structure to make it more financially attractive for airlines to operate newer, quieter aircraft.

With these new routes, KLM aims to enhance its European presence while navigating the complexities of airport regulations and environmental concerns.
