by Alice

A new survey conducted by Talker Research for Discover Puerto Rico has revealed the significant impact travel can have on romantic relationships. The study found that 73% of couples view travel as the ultimate test of a relationship’s strength, with nearly two-thirds (61%) reporting that a specific trip helped reignite their romance. Additionally, 40% of respondents felt closer to their partner after traveling together.

The research, which surveyed 2,000 American couples, highlights how shared travel experiences can deepen connections. A quarter of couples (25%) discovered a more romantic side of their partner while on a trip, and 46% agreed that a getaway is essential to rekindle the spark in their relationship.

In terms of preferred destinations, the Caribbean emerged as the most romantic region, with 54% of Americans favoring it. Europe and North America followed with 37% and 23%, respectively. Puerto Rico, as a U.S. territory, also proved popular due to its convenience, as American couples can visit without a passport.

The survey also identified key details that enhance a couple’s travel experience. These include room type, energy levels for activities, and shared interests in cultural or educational experiences. Culinary preferences were also an important factor for 37% of couples, influencing their choice of destination.

With 70% of couples discussing travel plans on a weekly basis, the survey underscores how travel not only strengthens relationships but also fosters deeper connection and compatibility between partners.
